Every Newcastle match Yoane Wissa will miss as Eddie Howe suffers horror injury blow
Newcastle are set for another crisis in the striking department after learning the extent of an injury to Yoane Wissa.
Wissa joined Newcastle from Brentford after the Toon were in dire need of a new striker, alongside big money purchase Nick Woltemade.
Woltemade scored against Wolves on his debut, as Newcastle secured their first three points of the Premier League season.
Wissa though was not in the matchday squad, and when Woltemade was substituted against Wolves with 25 minutes remaining, Howe had to turn to 22-year-old William Osula who has just two Premier League goals.

Yoane Wissa ruled out till after October international break
Wissa could miss up to seven fixtures for the Toon, meaning he will not be available to Howe until after the October international break.
The 29-year-old will miss the start of Newcastle’s Champions League campaign, a Carabao Cup tie and up to four Premier League games.
Match | Competition |
Barcelona (H) | Champions League |
Bournemouth (A) | Premier League |
Bradford City (H) | Carabao Cup |
Arsenal (H) | Premier League |
Union SG (A) | Champions League |
Nottingham Forest (H) | Premier League |
Brighton (A) | Premier League |
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie posted on X: “Yoane Wissa has been ruled out until after the October international break – confirms Eddie Howe.
“It’s always flexible, he says...”
The injury means Woltemade is likely to carry the goal scoring burden for Newcastle for the foreseeable future.
Nick Woltemade can nail down striker spot
Woltemade made a perfect start to life at Newcastle with his header and winner against Wolves, bringing an end to Howe’s need for a proven goal scorer.
The German will now be able to nail down his position as the leading striker in the team during Wissa’s injury lay off.
It is a good opportunity for the 23-year-old to cement himself to Howe, that when Wissa returns he should not be dropped to the bench.
This injury could make it harder for Wissa to break through into the Newcastle team, and will be an early setback in his career at the club.
There will be a lot of pressure though on Woltemade during this spell, and an injury to the striker could put Howe back to square one.
