Ex-Chelsea manager is ‘on Tottenham’s shortlist’ after Thomas Frank sack news

Tottenham are considering Enzo Maresca among a number of options to replace Thomas Frank if they are forced to pull the trigger on his sacking.

Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day following a public disagreement with the board at Stamford Bridge, and is now available as a free agent.

However, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Spurs would have reservations about hiring Maresca given his volatile nature.

Meanwhile, there are concerns that his Chelsea affiliation will not be well-received by the supporters who are already venting their frustrations with the board.

A number of potential alternatives will be assessed alongside Maresca, but he is believed to be among the contenders ahead of Frank‘s dismissal.

Tottenham weigh up Enzo Maresca appointment

Football Insider revealed on 26 January that Tottenham are delaying sacking Frank amid concerns about whether they could land a top boss to replace him.

The lack of available options currently has already seen Man United opt to install an interim manager, but Maresca’s situation has placed Spurs on alert.

Tottenham will have a look at Maresca, I’m sure,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s available after leaving Chelsea, so that immediately makes him a contender because there isn’t exactly a long list of available managers at the moment.

“I think there are a few doubts about Maresca, he seems to be a bit of a loose cannon and you can see that in the other clubs he’s managed.

“He couldn’t get out of Leicester quick enough but they weren’t massively concerned by that, then he goes to Chelsea and is constantly at war with the owners.

“Is that the type of manager Tottenham want? One who is going to kick up a fuss at any opportunity and may well be more trouble than he’s worth?

“The fans don’t need an excuse to protest at the moment either, and bringing in a former Chelsea manager isn’t likely to go down well with them.

“I’m not totally convinced he’s the answer to Tottenham’s problems, but because he’s available and he’s got that experience with Chelsea, he will be on their list.”

Thomas Frank sack update emerges at Tottenham

Frank’s side drew 2-2 with Burnley last time out thanks to a late Cristian Romero equaliser, meaning they have now won just two of their last 14 league games.

Pressure on the boss has ramped up yet again as a result, with many questioning how he is still in the job given the ongoing calls for his head from the stands.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 26 January that Frank will be sacked by Tottenham if they are dragged further into a relegation battle.

Spurs have now dropped to 14th place in the league, just three points above Nottingham Forest in 17th, and are at risk of being caught up in a scrap for survival.

Frank must now prepare to face Man City, Man United, Newcastle and Arsenal in his next four Premier League games which could decide his fate.
