Ex-manager backs King to quit Everton for Norwich as transfer plan revealed

Alex McLeish has tipped Josh King to “flourish” at Norwich City after a disappointing spell at Everton.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old had struggled with the “pressure” at Goodison Park.

As revealed by Football Insider, Norwich are plotting to sign King on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

The Norway international joined the Toffees on a short-term deal in January but has not convinced Carlo Ancelotti to extend his stay.

It is understood Turkish giants Galatasaray have also opened talks over tying him down to a long-term contract.

However, McLeish backed King to thrive in the Premier League with newly-promoted Norwich.

“Some players find it difficult to go to bigger clubs where there’s more competition,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“They don’t flourish as much and they don’t get as much game time. Then you see them going somewhere like the clubs who have been successful in the Championship coming up.

“Bournemouth, now Norwich have done it twice within the last three years or so. It’s a great achievement for them.

“You can feel at home. Maybe not feel the pressure as much as the expectation levels of some of the bigger clubs.”

King made 11 appearances for Everton this season, all as a substitute.

He has scored a total of 48 goals in 172 Premier League appearances to date.

Norwich won the Championship title by six points to secure an immediate return to the top flight.
