Ex-manager: Hojbjerg miles off Premier League rivals after 'what I've seen' at Tottenham
Alex McLeish has claimed Tottenham Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has “lost confidence” after his performances in recent weeks.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, slammed the 26-year-old’s performance in the 3-0 London derby defeat against Chelsea.
Tottenham have slumped to three consecutive Premier League defeats, conceding three goals in games against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal last month.
After the Arsenal loss (September 28th), Alan Hutton told Football Insider that Hojbjerg had been left “totally exposed” by manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactics.
McLeish believes Spurs’ barren run is hampering the Denmark international’s confidence.
He also insisted the midfielder doesn’t possess as much quality in his role as stars of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals.

“Hojbjerg came and had a really good start after being brought in by Mourinho,” McLeish told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“But it just looks as if he’s lost confidence after what I’ve seen in recent games.
“Against Chelsea, for example, he was in the middle of the box next to his centre-backs instead of getting out and down the throat of people trying to shoot.
“He definitely looks as if he can’t do that role as well as some of the others we have seen in the Premier League.
“It’s just a question of personnel now for Spurs. I don’t think Nuno is going to get the transfer support he did at Wolves.”
Hojbjerg, capped 50 times by Denmark, joined Spurs from Southampton last summer for a reported £15million.
He was a mainstay in Jose Mourinho’s side last season, making 53 appearances across all competitions.
