Ex-manager makes ‘massive’ Levy claim after Tottenham off-pitch development

Alex McLeish has tipped Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to silence the doubters after being elected to the board of the European Club Association.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers boss suggested there would be some backlash over the appointment after Spurs quit the ECA to join the European Super League earlier this year.

The ECA confirmed on Tuesday (7th September) Levy has been voted onto the executive board.

He replaces Manchester United chief Ed Woodward in the role.

Spurs, along with five other Premier League sides, were reinstated to the ECA after the failed Super League breakaway.

McLeish admitted Levy may face some backlash from critics after being elected.

However, he tipped the Tottenham chairman to silence them with his “massive” experience.

“Daniel’s a very, very experienced man at that level,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He was on the Rangers board when I arrived. He’d been there before I was there but then not long after he went to do the stuff in England.

“He’s gone on to such a high power. If they’re looking for guys very experienced at that level, there’s not a lot better than Daniel Levy.

“You would expect he’s being used for his experience of the high-level financial business in football. They will undoubtedly see him as an asset.

“He is a man with massive experience.

“Some people will say: ‘He was against the system or he wanted some change. Why are they using him?

“I would say they’re using him because of his past experience.”
