Ex-manager: Man United can win the title if they sign Kane after transfer mission
Alex McLeish has urged Manchester United to strike a deal with Tottenham for Harry Kane instead of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 27-year-old superstar could be the missing piece of the puzzle at Old Trafford.
As revealed by Football Insider, Manchester United are plotting a huge bid to sign Kane from Spurs despite tying Edinson Cavani to a new deal.
An Old Trafford source has told this site the Red Devils are still in the market for an elite centre-forward to spearhead the attack.
United are also reportedly still interested in Dortmund’s 20-year-old wonderkid Haaland.
However, McLeish insisted Kane’s proven record in the Premier League should give him the edge.
“Haaland has been linked as well, so is it Kane or Haaland?” McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I would go for Kane. Haaland has just done incredible things but I would go for Kane. At 27, Harry has got all the experience of playing in the Premier League year in, year out.
“The service he’ll get at Man United, we’ve already seen United come on leaps and bounds this season to get into that position. They have stood by Ole through the bad results.
“A figurehead like Harry Kane, I would see them as title contenders. I know they’re slightly behind City in terms of the title but this could be the final piece of the jigsaw.”
Kane has netted 31 goals and contributed 16 assists in 46 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Haaland has scored 37 times in 38 games across all competitions.
In other news, Tottenham have been backed to appoint “world-class” coach after key update.
