Tottenham would have to sign a superstar like Erling Haaland if Harry Kane and Heung-min Son were to leave this summer, according to Alex McLeish.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he feared an “exodus” of players if Kane was to leave.
As revealed by Football Insider, Spurs are “confident” of keeping Son this summer amid talks over a new contract.
The South Korea international has two years left on his current terms but is attracting attention from the likes of Bayern Munich.
Spurs have offered Son a new deal worth more than £200,000-a-week and he was prepared to pen the contract before Christmas.
However, McLeish insisted the potential departure of Kane, who wants out this summer, could lead to several stars leave.
He suggested Spurs would have to sign a top name like Borussia Dortmund ace Haaland to “appease the fans”.
“They’d have to try keep Son,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“Am I confident? Oof, I’ve seen it happen before when a player leaves and there is a bit of an exodus. It will take a few bob to replace those guys.
“Certainly, it would need to be players of absolute quality to come in and you know how much that’s going to cost.
“While they may procure massive sums for Kane and Son, they will have to get potential guys, like a Haaland or something like that, in the door.
“It would need to be players of that magnitude. It would appease the Spurs fans, I feel.”
Son scored 22 goals and contributed 17 assists in 51 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign.
Only Kane scored more goals (33) for Spurs than the South Korean.
