Ex-manager moots Levy ‘fall-out’ with Pochettino as Tottenham talks reported

Alex McLeish doubts Mauricio Pochettino will return to Tottenham as their new manager.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested there would still be “fall out” from the 49-year-old’s sacking in November 2019.

As reported by the Athletic, Tottenham are in talks with Pochettino about a shock return to north London.

It is said a deal will be very difficult to pull off and the Argentine boss may have to resign to force his way out of the French capital.

Pochettino still has a year left on his contract and PSG are reportedly reluctant of changing manager for the third time in as many years.

McLeish admitted Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy could still have a good relationship behind the scenes.

However, he suggested there would still be underlying feelings from the manager’s departure 18 months ago.

“It’s hard to go back,” McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“I do doubt that it will happen. I really doubt it. When you leave a club, you tend to leave with a little bit of – I won’t hit you with a big, giant word like grievance – but you do leave in a wee bit of a fall-out of sorts.

“However, his relationship might be tremendous with Daniel. Maybe they’ve kept in touch.

“The Spurs fans will be looking to get a big name, there’s no doubt about that.”

PSG failed to win the Ligue 1 title for only the second time in nine seasons during Pochettino’s first campaign in charge.

However, he did guide them to the Champions League semi-finals and won both the French Super Cup and the Coupe de France.
