Alex McLeish has claimed Nuno Espirito Santo could lure “top players” to Everton as they resurrected their interest after Crystal Palace talks ended.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees would see themselves as a “bigger club” than the Eagles.
As revealed by Football Insider, Nuno turned down an offer from Everton and verbally agreed to take charge of Crystal Palace instead on Tuesday night.
However, talks between the Eagles and 47-year-old have now collapsed and an Everton source has told Football Insider at 4pm today they will consider Nuno once again.
McLeish admitted, if nothing else, the Toffees’ pride will have taken a hit.
McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s a blow if he decided to go to London.
“Everton would probably, in the grand scheme of things and their history, think that they would be a bigger club than Crystal Palace.
“But don’t forget the rise of Crystal Palace over the last few years. How they’ve been run by Steve Parish and the magnificent management Roy Hodgson and company.
“You could kind of see there’s a 50/50 choice there. The bottom line is Nuno got a lot of help and support when he moved into Wolves. With the Portuguese factor and Jorge Mendes, they bought a lot of international, top players.
“To be fair to Nuno, he welded it together and they became a real force to be reckoned with. But will he get the same support?
“Will he be able to bring in top players to Everton and make an instant impact? He could, definitely.”
