Ex-manager: Tottenham fans will be ‘delighted’ with Levy after U-turn

Alex McLeish has claimed Tottenham fans will be “delighted” with Daniel Levy after Harry Kane confirmed he is set to stay.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager applauded the Spurs chairman for his “stubbornness” in transfer talks.

Kane took to Twitter on Wednesday (25 August) to reveal that he would remain at Tottenham this summer amid well-documented interest from Manchester City.

As revealed by Football Insider, Kane was hell-bent on leaving Spurs this summer.

McLeish admitted he thought the 28-year-old would be on his way.

“I didn’t think he would stay,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.

“I felt the thing that was unfulfilled in his career due to the prowess he has shown would be a trophy. Not just any trophy, although any trophy is absolutely wonderful in a player’s career.

“The fact Man City have come in for him, he’ll be thinking: ‘Can I be holding a Champions League winners medal? Can I be holding a Premier League title?’

“Sometimes players are happy at their birth clubs. If they feel they see massive progress within the ranks, it’s possible he’s had a rethink.

“Daniel has dug his heels in. I think the Spurs fans will be delighted with the stance he’s made and the stubbornness he’s shown.

“Harry was only going to go at a certain price that was unheard of. So well done Daniel Levy for protecting the Spurs fans.”
