Ex-manager: Tottenham may have just sealed 'one of best moves of the summer' as Gil deal completed
Alex McLeish has claimed Bryan Gil could be “one of the best moves of the summer” if he hits the ground running at Tottenham.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old would be expected to “smash it” week in, week out.
Tottenham confirmed on Monday (July 26th) Gil had joined from Sevilla in a part-exchange deal involving Erik Lamela.
The Spanish winger has penned a five-year deal in north London.
Meanwhile, Lamela, 29, has left Spurs for Spain after eight seasons with the Lilywhites.
McLeish admitted he has doubts whether Gil will be able to deliver the expected performance levels on a weekly basis.

However, he suggested the Spain international has the ability to silence his doubters at Tottenham.
Asked if he thought Gil had big boots to fill, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Absolutely. At 20-years-old, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
“The expectation levels of that club, of those fans, will be that the kid comes in and he smashes it every single week.
“I would have my doubts that he will come in and do that. If he does, then hats off to Tottenham, it was one of the best moves of the summer.
“However, that remains to be seen.”
A graduate of the Sevilla youth ranks, Gil played 21 times for the senior side before joining Spurs.
He spent the majority of last season on loan at Eibar, with 29 appearances, four goals and four assists under his belt.
Meanwhile, Lamela made 257 appearances for Spurs during his eight years in north London.
He played 35 times across all competitions last season, with four goals to his name.
