Ex-Premier League referee: Diego Costa may jet out to Brazil after ‘absolutely ridiculous’ Wolves development
Diego Costa can have no complaints with his “absolutely ridiculous” red card during Wolves’ 1-1 draw with Brentford, according to Keith Hackett.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee suggested Costa may now go back to Brazil as he is unavailable for Wolves until after the World Cup.
As shown on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme, the 34-year-old was shown a straight red card for an off the ball headbutt on Ben Mee at the end of the game.
Despite his reputation, it was the first time Costa has been sent off in a Premier League games.
He will now serve a three-game ban and will not be available for Wolves until their trip to Everton on Boxing Day.
As quoted by Sky Sports after the game, Steve Davis revealed the striker had apologised for his actions and the pair will have further talks about any further punishment.
“This is a referee who understands the game, understands the application of the laws and has courage,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“He’s not going to be influenced, he is going to carry out the laws of the game.
“Costa’s actions were absolutely ridiculous, a red card, 100 per cent, every day.
“He’s not available until after Christmas now, so the punishment is ‘Go and have a holiday’, it doesn’t quite gel. Off he goes back home.”

Costa signed for Wolves as a free agent in September as they suffered a striker injury crisis.
The Brazil-born ace, who has not scored in six appearances for his new club, is under contract until next summer.
In other news, Everton are plotting a raid for a 27-year-old that Jorge Mendes wants out of Wolves.
