Ex-Rangers midfielder now favourite to seal first management job in Scottish Premiership
Rangers could be about to see a former star step into the dugout against them in the coming weeks.
The Gers have not been without their own problems this season, but Danny Rohl has begun to turn their fortunes around in the league in recent weeks.
Rangers defeated Hibernian 1-0 at Ibrox on Monday night, and they are now hot on the heels of Celtic after a dismal start to the season.
The Glasgow giants are nine points behind Hearts at the top of the Premiership, and may begin to feel that they have a faint sniff of a title challenge, with clashes against both of the top two coming up in the next few weeks.
Optimism is slowly building at Ibrox, but they could be about to see one of their own step in at a league rival in the near future.

Ex-Rangers youngster Peter Leven favourite for Kilmarnock job
Russell Martin lost his job at Rangers back in October and became the Premiership’s first managerial casualty of the season in the process.
His departure has since been followed up by two other bosses losing their jobs in the Scottish top-flight, with Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic later in October.
Kilmarnock then became the latest side to part company with their boss on Monday, with Stuart Kettlewell shown the door after a 10-game winless run.
Killie currently sit second bottom of the Premiership, and are in serious danger of potentially being relegated if their form doesn’t improve in the coming months.
Speculation is already mounting as to who could step into Kettlewell’s shoes, and the early favourite for the job will be a familiar face for Rangers fans.
Peter Leven is the bookies’ early favourite at odds of 6/5, with the former Gers academy midfielder currently leading the way from the likes of David Martindale and Kris Doolan.
Peter Leven’s managerial record in the Premiership
Steven Naismith has also been linked with the Kilmarnock job in recent days, and whoever takes the reins at Rugby Park will be under immediate pressure to begin to turn the tide.
| Manager | Odds |
| Peter Leven | 6/5 |
| David Martindale | 8/5 |
| Kris Doolan | 2/1 |
| Scott Brown | 3/1 |
| Alan Archibald | 4/1 |
Leven is an experienced head in Scottish football, but his experience of leading teams as a manager has been hugely limited so far.
The 42-year-old is currently part of Jimmy Thelin’s coaching staff at Aberdeen, but aside from two brief stints as caretaker manager of the Dons, he hasn’t had a taste of managing in the top flight.
Leven was last placed in charge at Pittodrie after Neil Warnock’s exit back in March 2024, and led the team through 12 Premiership games across his two temporary stints.
The former midfielder was relatively successful during his brief spells in the dugout, as he secured six wins from those 12 games, leaving him with a 50 per cent win percentage in league action.
