Ex-refs chief: Newcastle ‘have every right’ to rage as ‘two big incidents’ re-analysed
Stuart Attwell may have made a major error as Newcastle’s away woes continued with defeat at Brentford in the Premier League.
Newcastle have not won an away match in the Premier League since April, despite Harvey Barnes putting the Toon 1-0 up at half-time against Brentford.
It is the second weekend running where Eddie Howe’s side have taken the lead but failed to secure victory, after Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat at West Ham.
Howe is coming under increasing pressure at Newcastle, and the Toon boss will not have been helped by the officiating at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Dan Burn’s costly red card proved pivotal at Brentford, as Igor Thiago went on to convert a resulting spot-kick and net a game ending third goal in added time.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former referee Keith Hackett believes Burn should not have seen a second yellow card for his foul on Dango Ouattara which led to the penalty.
“Newcastle United have every right to feel aggrieved by this poor piece of officiating,” Hackett said.
“Two big incidents in this game concerning Dan Burn of Newcastle United. The first was a clear trip inside the penalty area for which a penalty kick should have been awarded and was not despite VAR intervention.
“Minutes later chasing down a forward who went to ground a penalty kick was awarded and Dan Burn issued incorrectly with a second yellow card.
“When reviewing the replays there is no foul, there should be no penalty kick, there should be no second yellow card.”

Eddie Howe slammed by Newcastle support for Dan Burn decision
On a yellow card, Howe’s decision not to substitute Burn was criticised by the Newcastle support on social media.
Howe had Lewis Hall on the bench, and the 21-year-old duly came onto the pitch when Burn saw red.
With the game locked at 1-1 before the red card, bringing Hall on earlier for Burn may have preserved a precious point on the road for Newcastle.
Following West Ham‘s victory over Burnley, the Toon are now just two points above the relegation zone in 14th place.
