Ex-striker makes 'desperate' claim as Nuno's Tottenham motives questioned
Frank McAvennie can’t work out why Nuno Espirito Santo took the Tottenham Hotspur job.
The former West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the club may have made the former Wolves boss promises that can’t be kept.
Nuno was announced as the new Tottenham boss on 1st July as the club’s extensive manager hunt came to an end.
The club’s hunt for Jose Mourinho’s replacement was extensive as several managers were considered.
Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca were just two names to walk away after entering talks with Tottenham.
McAvennie is surprised Nuno took the job after so many managers saw issues with taking the vacant position.

“Everyone knows how many people walked away from Tottenham,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was their fourteenth choice or something. They walked away because there were no guarantees.
“The first questions will have been about Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and money.
“The rest walked away but Nuno decided to take it. So the question is ‘why?’.
“What has he been told? Or is he just taking it because he’s desperate?
“He’s a good manager and he must have had other options so why has he gone to Spurs?
“I wonder what they have told him and I wonder if the club can keep those promises. I think the fans should be worried.”
Nuno left Wolves at the end of the season following a very successful three-year spell at Molineux.
He also managed Valencia and Porto before moving to Wolves and leading them to the Premier League.
