Ex-striker slams 'disrespectful' Tottenham stars who went behind Nuno's back after Sky update
Noel Whelan has slammed Tottenham stars Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero after reportedly defying the club to travel for international duty.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the duo’s first loyalties should lie with the club who pays their salary.
Sky Sports reported on Tuesday (September 7th) that Lo Celso and Romero will be hit with “hefty” fines for going against the club’s wishes and linking up with Argentina.
The pair have joined up with Aston Villa stars Emi Buendia and Emi Martinez in Croatia.
This is in order to avoid an extended quarantine period in the UK.
However, according to the Sky report, the two Villains agreed their absence with the club – unlike Lo Celso and Romero.

All four players will miss their respective fixtures this weekend.
Whelan criticised the Spurs stars for ignoring the club’s wishes, stating that manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been “disrespected” by their actions.
“Yeah, absolutely – it is fair [to punish the players],” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“I understand the players are in a very difficult position but first and foremost – you are contracted to your club.
“They pay your wages.
“It’s not just about them, it’s about safety. It’s for other teammates and staff members in and around the club.
“If there are rules set by the club, you can’t go behind their back – it’s disrespectful to the club, the manager and the rest of the players.
“It’s a really bad choice by the two Tottenham players.”
Argentina’s fixture against Brazil was interrupted by Brazillian health officials after they learned of the quartet’s failure to quarantine upon arrival in the country.
