Ex-striker tips Benitez to jump at Everton job as contact reported
Noel Whelan has suggested Rafael Benitez would jump at the chance to become the new Everton boss.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Toffees would be a “really exciting” prospect for any manager.
As reported by The Telegraph on Friday (11th June), Everton made initial contact with Benitez over the vacant post, although Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be the favourite for the job.
Benitez has been out of work since leaving Chinese outfit Dalian Professional in January.
Whelan insisted Everton would be an “enticing” project for any manager.
Asked if he thought Benitez would be tempted to join Everton, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Why not? I think there’s a lot of managers out there who would love this opportunity.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity at Everton. So much is going for them, so many plans in place.
“Great training ground facilities, moving to a new stadium pretty soon, they’ve got money to spend. They want to break into the top six, what’s not enticing about that?
“Can I see him at the club? I could. It’d be a bit strange for a while and I’d have to get over the fact he’s not in the Liverpool dugout.”
Benitez spent six years with Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
He won the Champions League with the Reds and picked up silverware with the likes of Napoli, Valencia, Inter Milan and Chelsea.
His most recent job in England was that of Newcastle United manager.
Everton finished 10th in the recently-concluded Premier League campaign under former boss Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian left Goodison Park to rejoin Real Madrid at the start of June.
