Ex-striker 'wowed' by Aston Villa source update today on talks to sign Cantwell
Noel Whelan has heralded Aston Villa for moving swiftly as talks advance on a deal to sign Todd Cantwell from Norwich City.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 23-year-old would offer some serious competition to Dean Smith’s squad.
As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday (July 21st), Villa are in advanced talks to sign Cantwell and the latest from a club source today is that the club are increasingly hopeful of an agreement.
The attacking midfielder has entered the final year of his contract at Carrow Road and has rebuffed efforts to extend it.
As such, a Villa source has told this site there is growing confidence a deal can be done for the playmaker.
Whelan admitted the Villans had “hit the ground running” in the transfer window.

He suggested Cantwell would push for a starting role were he to join.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Look, they’ve hit the ground running in the transfer market.
“They’ve not wasted any time really to get themselves out there and get the targets that they wanted at the end of last season.
“They’ve gone out there and got the business done very quick and very early.
“Look at the midfield players that they have at that club. If Todd Cantwell joins as well from Norwich, wow.
“There’s going to be a real battle for places.”
Aston Villa kicking off their summer window with the club-record capture of Emi Buendia from Norwich.
They have also re-signed Ashley Young on a free transfer following his departure from Inter Milan.
