Ex-Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou lined up for shock new role, timeline already set
Ange Postecoglou looks set to make a return to football management during the international break with interest in the Australian growing.
Postecoglou was dismissed from his role at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season after the club finished 17th in the Premier League.
The Australian lead Tottenham to their first major silverware since 2008, beating Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United to win the Europa League.
Some thought Postecoglou’s European successes would buy him more time in North London, but Daniel Levy pulled the trigger on the 60-year-old’s dismissal despite the club’s Champions League qualification.

Ange Postecoglou set to return to management
Having only been out of a job for three months, Postecoglou now looks set to take up another role in football management just three weeks into the new season.
Fabrizio Romano has reported [September 3] that Postecoglou has been courted to replace ex-Man United boss Erik ten Hag who was sensationally let go by Bayer Leverkusen just two games into their campaign.
It’s been suggested that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are also interested in former Spurs boss having fired an ex-United boss of their own, Jose Mourinho.
Football Insider also revealed exclusively that, Postecoglou has been lined up as a potential suitor for Nottingham Forest, as the Portuguese manager is on the hot seat after a row at the City Ground.
Nonetheless, offers are expected by both Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce in the coming days and it remains to be seen where Postecoglou would have the most interest in going.

Ange Postecoglou faces a tough choice
Football Insider verdict
If Postecoglou was to face a straight choice between the two clubs, the former Celtic manager would face a tough decision.
Leverkusen are a team in a major rebuilding period following the departure of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, and their squad upheaval during the summer, that saw the majority of their first team lineup from last season leave the club.
Player | To |
Florian Wirtz | Liverpool |
Jeremie Frimpong | Liverpool |
Amine Adli | Bournemouth |
Odilon Kossounou | Atalanta |
Granit Xhaka | Sunderland |
Lukas Hradecky | Monaco |
Jonathan Tah | Bayern Munich |
Piero Hincapie | Arsenal |
Victor Boniface | Werder Bremen |
Matej Kovar | PSV |
Now Ten Hag has been dismissed there is little faith in a team that lost their spine of Jonathan Tah, Granit Xhaka and Florian Wirtz, just twelve months on from their unbeaten Bundesliga winning campaign.
Meanwhile, Turkish giants Fenerbahce are on the search for a first Turkish Super Lig title in over 10 years, having finished second to Istanbul rivals Galatasaray three years in a row.
Wherever Postecoglou goes, he will be piled on with pressure to deliver success to two clubs who are in turmoil and needing success.
