Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted the Leeds United defence “isn’t good enough” after they were put to the sword by Leicester City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa star pinpointed Marcelo Bielsa’s high defensive line their weakest link that opponents will destroy.
Agbonlahor caused controversy last month after dubbing Leeds a “myth”, and has sparred with Leeds fans on social media.
The pundit delivered his latest verdict after watching a Jamie Vardy-inspired Leicester cause Leeds huge problems on Monday night.
United were torn apart in the first half-hour and slumped to a 4-1 defeat, taking the number of goals conceded from Premier League matches this season to 13.
“I think their weak spots are definitely when they try and play too aggressive and high press, their defence isn’t good enough for me,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“If they had quicker defenders at the back then they could play that way against anyone. On Monday, Vardy was like he was playing in the playground, he was getting the ball, having fun, he was running with it across the pitch and turning and Harvey Barnes, they were having fun because the Leeds defence is quite poor when it’s got space in behind them.
“We’ve seen it, you know, Vardy had how many one on ones? A few of them he missed, there was one in the second half where he missed, he fell over and that’s what’s
going to cost Leeds in games where they try and press teams high.
“I mean, if you do that against a Liverpool team, and that’s what happens with Mane and Salah on the counter-attack, you’re going to get hurt.
“So if there’s something that they’re probably need to look at, maybe, is trying to get some
quicker defenders back there.”
