Alan Hutton has been left drooling over the potential of Aston Villa youngster Keinan Davis after the striker’s recent run-outs under Dean Smith.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and Scotland defender revealed that the 21-year-old is very highly thought of by everyone at the club and suggested he could be pushing Wesley for a starting spot if he reaches his full potential.
Davis has played nine times across all competitions for Villa this season, including picking up a starting spot in the 2-1 League Cup win over Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
Hutton, who came up against the promising talent in training last season, says that the forward is a physically imposing presence who can push on the be a potential first-team regular this season.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s still young, he has to keep working on his development but he has done really well when he’s come on, I must be honest.
“He’s so physically strong for such a young boy, he’s so difficult to push on the ball but you’re obviously looking at Wesley this season, he’s the main man, he’s going to play up front.
“I think Keinan if he keeps himself fit, because he’s had a lot of injury problems, and he gets his 20 minutes here and 20 minutes there, if he keeps progressing the way that everybody thinks he should, I think he’s one that can definitely push Wesley.”
Of Davis’ nine appearances this season, three have come as part of the starting XI in the League Cup, with the other six all substitute outings in the Premier League.
He has a total of 53 first-team games under his belt for Villa, scoring four goals and setting up a further five assists.
