Exclusive: Alexander Isak could quit Newcastle United

Alexander Isak could push for a move away from Newcastle United in next summer’s transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say the 25-year-old wants to play Champions League football and is growing increasingly concerned about the chances of reaching that level at his current club.

This comes after reports claimed the striker’s camp has delayed talks over a new contract amid concerns about the direction the club is heading.

Eddie Howe’s side are now without a win in their last five league games, most recently suffering a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies have struggled to be clinical with the chances they make going forward, while their defensive unit has failed to provide stability, causing them to slip down the table.

They have now fallen to 12th place after nine games, having won three, drawn three, and lost three, and their performances have led to further concerns.

As a result, the striker is said to be considering his long-term future at St James’ Park amid growing speculation and interest in his signature.

Alexander Isak considering Newcastle future in new transfer twist

Isak’s current contract at Newcastle is set to run until 2028, meaning the club still hold the cards over his future and are expected to demand a significant fee for his exit.

However, growing uncertainty surrounding his position at the club has put rival Premier League clubs on alert as they weigh up deals ahead of next summer’s window.

Since joining Howe’s side from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a fee of £63million, the Sweden international has established himself as one of Europe’s most highly regarded forwards.

As a result, there is no shortage of interest in his signature, and he is expected to weigh up his options come the end of the season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, remain confident they can keep their star man at the club.

Isak’s concerns surrounding the club’s league position and European qualification have echoed those of the fans are a frustrating start to the season.

However, he found the net in the defeat against Chelsea for his second goal in seven league appearances so far this season – a record which has also contributed to their issues.
