Exclusive: Ancelotti reportedly pushing for new Everton player deal, Bent left raving
Darren Bent has backed Everton to hand veteran defender Leighton Baines a contract extension at Goodison Park.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the 35-year-old has “never let them down” during his time on Merseyside.
As reported by The Athletic, Baines is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year extension at Goodison, with Ancelotti the driving force behind the deal.
The left-back’s current terms come to an end this summer after he signed an extension in June 2019.
Bent says that he is all for Baines sticking around at Goodison, raving over the defender’s consistent performances.
Bent told Football Insider: “It probably suits both of them. Leighton Baines has been a great servant for Everton.

“Experienced, knows the club inside and out, you need these type of players about. Also, when he’s stepped in for Everton, he’s never let them down really, from the moment he arrived to the moment he’ll leave.
“It’s a reward and testament to himself, keeping himself fit, and you need that experience there. He knows the club really, really well. He knows how to guide the club out of tough times as well.
“I’m all for that. That’s well played.”
Baines has a total of 417 appearances under his belt for the Toffees since signing from Wigan Athletic back in 2007.
He has found himself behind Lucas Digne in the pecking order for much of this season, featuring just six times across all competitions.
