Exclusive: Ange Postecoglou stay at Tottenham update – ‘Really like him’
Ange Postecoglou has been backed to save his job at Tottenham and make signings in the transfer window as he understands what he needs to do to make that happen.
Following a 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, Spurs have now lost 18 Premier League games this season, more than any other team bar the trio of Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton in the relegation zone.
Whilst injuries haven’t helped, Tottenham‘s unprecedented collapse, having finished fifth just a year ago, was startling, especially considering they began this season with real hopes of qualifying for a spot in next season’s Champions League.
The silver lining to this campaign has been the team’s form in Europe, and winning the Europa League is now an absolute necessity for Postecoglou, ex-Spurs star Alan Hutton told Football Insider exclusively.

Ange Postecoglou needs Europa League win
With the walls closing in on the Australian boss, his side came through in a tense and fiery 1-0 second-leg win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Postecoglou showcased his ability to make good decisions in the heat of the moment, switching penalty takers from Mathys Tel to Dominic Solanke, who coolly placed his effort past Kaua Santos.
However, following that result up with a loss at home to Forest has once again heaped pressure on both the ex-Celtic boss and his side’s need to claim their first trophy since the 2008 League Cup win.

Alan Hutton hopes Tottenham stick with Ange Postecoglou
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, via NewBettingOffers.co.uk, Hutton explained why he wanted to see Tottenham keep Postecoglou, but also highlighted just how important a Europa League win was for the 59-year-old.
When asked if he thinks Postecoglou will be sacked this season, the ex-Spurs right-back said: “I hope not.
“Look, I really like him, as a guy and as a manager. Obviously, I’ve met him a good few times when he was up here at Celtic.
“Look, pressure can make you act in certain ways, and it’s definitely a pressurised situation that he’s at, at this moment in time.
“I think he’s got good ideas and how he sees the game and how he wants it to kind of work out in front of him. They [Tottenham] just tend to kind of shoot theirselves in the foot from time to time in terms of conceding goals, and they play quite open.
2024/25 Premier League stats | League rank | Tottenham |
Goals per match | 4th | 1.8 |
Goals conceded per match | 14th | 1.5 |
Average possession | 4th | 57.2% |
Clean sheets | 13th | 6 |
Expected goals | 6th | 55.2 xG |
“Everybody really loves watching Tottenham because there’s going to be goals or there’s going to be action, something’s going to happen.
“So I hope he can keep his job and then build because the squad is strong, and if he adds one or two, then hopefully he can kick on. I think they need to win the Europa League, to be quite honest with you, because the league form, I mean, losing 18 games is probably not acceptable at a club that size.
“So he’ll understand that needs to turn round.”
