Pundit Exclusive: Arteta told to hand 24-yr-old rare start at No 10 after bust-up

Kevin Campbell wants Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to hand Dani Ceballos a rare start against Leeds United despite his involvement in a reported training ground bust-up.

The former Highbury favourite, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested Mohammed Elneny’s replacement will be one of many changes at Elland Road to “shake things up” after a disappointing 3-0 loss at home to Aston Villa prior to the international break.

Elneny surprisingly won his place back in the Gunners side this season after a season-long loan spell at Besiktas for the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign.

However, the midfielder has tested positive for Covid-19 while on international duty with Egypt, along with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, and cannot return to England yet.

Neither Ceballos or Granit Xhaka has started a league game since the 1-0 defeat against Leicester City in October.

The Athletic reported today that Ceballos was involved in a training ground fight with David Luiz during a practice match that took place last Friday.

When asked by Football Insider who he would like to replace Elneny for the trip to Leeds United on Saturday, Campbell said:

“Players like Xhaka and Ceballos were not playing but they will now fancy their chances.

“Obviously, Mikel Arteta is probably going to shake things up because Arsenal have not really been performing, especially in that last game against Aston Villa.

“Elneny is an enforced change and it is a shame that he has to come out because he has done fantastically well since he has come back into the side.

“Ceballos and Xhaka could play together with Ceballos in the number 10 role. I would like to see him there because he has an eye for a pass.

“But if it was a straight choice, someone to play alongside Thomas Partey, I would go with Ceballos.”
