Exclusive: Aston Villa could now agree £100m+ sale

Aston Villa could be set to sell a stake in their women’s team at a valuation of more than £100million, sources have told Football Insider.

The West Midlands giants have faced profit and sustainability (PSR) issues over the past couple of years after spending close to the allowable losses limit.

It is believed Unai Emery’s need to make a sale before the 30 June accounting deadline to avoid a spending breach.

Football Insider revealed on 5 June Villa are one of multiple clubs considering selling stakes in their women’s team to improve their PSR situations.

The Premier League was looking to hold a vote to prevent clubs from selling assets to sister companies at the annual meeting of the 20 top-flight sides earlier this month.

However, the proposal didn’t even go to a vote after it became clear there wasn’t enough support for the motion to pass.

Chelsea sold their women’s team to owners BlueCo last summer for around £200million, helping them turn their previous £90million loss for 2022-23 into a £128million profit for 2023-24.

The Athletic reported on 25 June talks are now advancing over a deal for Villa to sell their women’s team.

Sources have told Football Insider such an agreement would value Villa Women at more than £100million.

Aston Villa to complete £30m sale within days

Football Insider revealed on 25 June Villa must make a £30million sale within the next few days to comply with the PSR regulations.

Under the PSR rules, Premier League clubs are only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman all moved on before last year’s accounting deadline to help them avoid a spending breach.

Villa posted a club-record revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £217.7million in 2022-23 to £275.7million, while their losses fell from £119.6million to £85.4million.
