'There's obviously an issue' - Exclusive: Bent reacts to 'Weird' Mourinho update at Tottenham
Darren Bent claims there is “obviously an issue” between Jose Mourinho and young striker Troy Parrott after the Tottenham manager’s recent comments.
The former Spurs and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that the Portuguese boss does not trust the 18-year-old to play a significant role for the club.
Mourinho told the media that the teenager is “not ready” to play regularly, insisting he needs help “on the pitch but off it” as well.
Bent admits it is a strange choice of words from the Spurs boss and says he is leaving his decision open to speculation with his update on the youngster.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s weird but it also tells me that he’s coming under a lot of fire over why he’s not using him and he’s basically come out, without giving detail, there’s obviously an issue there.
“He’s left the door open for people to speculate and maybe dig a little bit deeper but clearly something’s not quite right, whether his lifestyle off the pitch is going against him, and he’s not been given the opportunity, who knows?

“I’m all for youngsters coming through, we said that Mourinho rarely likes to use young players and he’s seen something in this kid where he’s not quite sure about. He’s going to leave that dangling for people to speculate and make their own assumptions.”
Parrott came off the bench for a couple of minutes in the 3-2 defeat to Wolves on Sunday afternoon, his second Premier League appearance of the season.
He has a total of three games under his belt for the first-team and is the only recognised centre-forward in the senior squad at the moment.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Mills has had his say on the axe dropping on two senior players.
