In other Tottenham news, Bent says Spurs will have two players in mind as they plot an £80million transfer raid this summer.
Exclusive: Bent suggests promises made to Tottenham star in behind-the-scenes talks
Darren Bent has suggested there have been behind-the-scenes promises made to Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as he remains in north London despite his release clause.
The former Spurs and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that he expects a new contract offer has been tabled for the Belgian, his current deal coming to an end next summer, and that something is keeping him at the club despite nothing being signed.
As has been widely-documented, Alderweireld has a contract clause allowing clubs to sign him for £25million this summer, although the expiry on those terms is at the end of this week.
Bent says that there must have been promises made or some other factor which is keeping the Belgian centre back in north London, insisting that it would be terrible business were he to leave for nothing next summer.
Bent told Football Insider: “He’s got a year left on his contract, you’d have thought they’d have offered him another one already and he’s just not signed it. Maybe Spurs have promised him some stuff.

“You’d hate to think that a player of his ability, if he stays at Spurs, has another unbelievable season, Spurs do really well and him walking away for a free – that’s not really good business.
“You’ve got to think that there’s something there that’s keeping him there. He might be happy there, maybe they’re negotiating a new contract, maybe they’re close to negotiating it which is why he’s not left anywhere.”
Alderweireld has 159 appearances under his belt for Spurs since joining from Atletico Madrid, including 50 games played last season.
