Darren Bent believes Arsenal defender Rob Holding would be a “very, very good signing” for Newcastle United.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, Bent, a boyhood Arsenal fan said he would be sad to see to Holding leave the Gunners.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Holding is one of four new signings that Newcastle are close to completing prior to the new season.
This site also reported last month that Premier League newboys Leeds United were interested in the former Bolton defender and had opened preliminary talks.
Holding played the full 90 minutes as Arsenal claimed the Community Shield last week but since then Mikel Arteta has added Lille defender Gabriel to his ranks.
Asked by Football Insider whether the addition of Holding would be good business for Newcastle, Bent said:“It would be.
“I would be disappointed to see him leave Arsenal because he offers a lot.
“I think he’s a good defender, he puts his head in where it hurts, it would be sad to see him go.
“For Newcastle, it would be a superb signing. He’s somebody that would go up there and defend and I think he’d enjoy himself.
“Listen, it would be a very, very good signing for Newcastle.”
Holding has started just 33 Premier League games for Arsenal since joining in 2016 after struggling with injuries.
The defender suffered an ACL injury in December 2018 which saw him miss nine months of football before picking up a knee injury upon his return in September last year.
When the Premier League restarted in June, Holding was a key member of Arteta’s side and played the full 90 minutes of Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
In other news, Football Insider can REVEAL that Newcastle United have agreed personal terms with a striker after big new developments.
