Birmingham City are working on deal to beat the transfer deadline to sign Burnley striker Nahki Wells, Football Insider understands.
Wells, 29, is free to leave Burnley before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday as he does not figure in Sean Dyche’s plans at Turf Moor for the upcoming campaign.
Swansea City had an offer for Wells rejected earlier this summer and a Birmingham source has told Football Insider the club are making a move to bring the striker to St Andrew’s.
The striker spent last season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, where he scored seven goals.
Birmingham manager Pep Clotet is desperate to bolster his attacking options after seeing last season’s top scorer Che Adams leave for Southampton and he has targeted Wells to fill the void.
Burnley boss Dyche does not regard Well as central to his plans for the new season and the club are willing to sell him today if their valuation is matched.
In other Birmingham City news, Football Insider can reveal that the club want to sign a Sheffield Wednesday star on Swansea City’s radar.
