Exclusive: Brown makes Ancelotti claim as Everton close in on first summer signing
Michael Brown believes Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has been promised money to spend as they close in on their first summer signing.
The former Premier League midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits he is expecting to see the Italian boss bring in several new faces across the pitch to bolster his squad.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Toffees have submitted a lucrative contract offer to £30million-rated Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes to beat their rivals to his signature.
The club did not make a single new signing during the January window, with Ancelotti appointed manager in late December.
However, Brown is expecting Everton to be very active during the summer market, suggesting that the Italian boss would not have joined had he not been promised spending money.
Brown told Football Insider: “They’ve spent money to try and improve but I think you look at Everton and say in every area of the pitch, Everton are going to be looking to strengthen.

“With Ancelotti being the manager, I would expect transfers and I would expect money spent. In all areas, they would be looking to improve to try and get as high in the table.
“You don’t see Ancelotti going there without money to spend and I think that would be made available. I’d expect some decent transfers.”
Everton had a busy summer window in 2019 under former boss Marco Silva, bringing in the likes of Moise Kean, Alex Iwobi, Jean-Phillipe Gbamin and Fabian Delph.
However, they have all had indifferent seasons at Goodison Park, with form and injuries curtailing their campaigns.
