Alex Bruce admits he would be “very surprised” if Fulham let Joe Bryan join Leeds United even with the imminent arrival of Antonee Robinson.

The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists it would be “bizarre” for the 26-year-old to leave after his crucial role in getting the club promoted.

As revealed by Football Insider, the Whites are keen on signing the left-back and have been given encouragement over a possible deal thanks to Fulham’s impending capture of Wigan ace Robinson.

The Latics’ defender arrived in London for a medical yesterday (Monday, 17 August) to complete a move to Craven Cottage.

Bryan was the Cottagers’ play-off hero as his two goals sank Brentford at Wembley to secure a return to the Premier League.

As a result, Bruce admits he would be stunned if the left-back was allowed to leave the club after his heroics.

“I’d be very surprised if they let him go after what he’s just done for them in the play-off final, that really would be a bizarre one,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“I’d be very surprised if Bryan leaves after what he’s achieved, he’s a good player.”

Bryan had scored just once last season prior to his double against Brentford in the play-off final, with a goal against Wigan back in September.

He struck long-range free-kick and poked the ball home in added time to secure victory at Wembley and take Fulham back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2018/19.
