Alex Bruce believes Celtic manager Neil Lennon will be “delighted” to have Leigh Griffiths back in contention for a starting place.
The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insisted the Scotland international will be a “good addition” to Lennon’s squad.
As quoted by the Daily Record, Lennon confirmed that, in terms of conditioning, it is the best he has seen the 29-year-old for a long time.
The Scotland international was snubbed for Celtic’s pre-season trip to France and was publicly lambasted by Lennon for returning to Parkhead out of shape.
But now he is back fit, Bruce is sure he’ll be an asset for Celtic as they chase a 10th consecutive league triumph.
“Lennon has gone public with his criticism when he came back to pre-season,” Bruce told Football Insider.
“He’s gone away and turned it around and worked hard over the last month or so.
“He’ll be a good addition to the Celtic squad because obviously he’s scored a lot of goals and I’m sure Lennon is delighted he’s got him back.”
He has netted a total of 115 times for the Scottish champions to date and has scored four goals in 19 appearances for his country.
Following Celtic’s victory over Hibs, Lennon heaped praise on the striker, he told the Daily Record: “Leigh was great. He looks great and it’s the best I’ve seen him in a long time, in terms of how he looks in his conditioning. He just has to maintain it now as he will be a real asset for us – no question.”
In other Celtic news, Alex Bruce has been left fretting after a “nightmare” injury update.
