Exclusive: Burnley set sights on Andrej Ilic move in January

Burnley are plotting a move for Union Berlin attacker Andrej Ilic in January, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are battling multiple teams to land the Serbia international, 25.

Ilic has caught the eye at Union Berlin this season with one goal and seven assists in 14 appearances across all competitions.

Burnley boss Scott Parker is keen to bolster his attacking options in January to boost their survival chances.

Ilic has 18 months remaining on his Union Berlin contract, which expires in the summer of 2027.

Andrej Ilic has carried impressive 2024-25 form into this campaign

Parker is under ever-increasing pressure at Burnley as they already find themselves five points adrift of safety in the Premier League.

The Clarets are currently enduring a run of six consecutive defeats, three of which passed without them finding the back of the net.

Parker needs more firepower within his group, and Ilic has been identified as a potential candidate to help provide that in the second half of the campaign.

The striker currently leads Union Berlin for goal contributions this season, and he has picked up where he left off following an impressive finish last term.

The Serbian netted four goals in the final five Bundesliga games in 2024-25, and that tempted the capital club into turning his loan from French side Lille into a permanent deal over the summer.

Ilic already has eight goal involvements this term, and that has attracted interest from Burnley and other Premier League clubs, with his time in Germany potentially on the verge of drawing to a premature close.

Ilic must rectify clear Burnley issue

The threat of relegation for Burnley is growing with every passing week at the moment, and they simply must find a way of scoring more goals if they are to turn their fortunes around.

The Lancashire outfit have managed just 16 league goals so far in 2025-26, a tally which is only better than that of Nottingham Forest and bottom club Wolves.

Parker will know that he simply must find more threat to add to his team if they are to avoid an immediate return to the Championship, and he will be hoping that Ilic can come in and provide that.

If Burnley can strike a deal for the Union Berlin man, then there will be immediate pressure for him to arrive and hit the ground running in English football.
