Alan Hutton has urged Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli to turn down a transfer exit as the club look to sell him this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Scotland defender believes the full-back has shown he has the ability to be a success at Parkhead.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, Celtic are willing to let the 24-year-old leave Parkhead at the end of the season after the impressive development of fellow 2019 signing Greg Taylor.
However, Hutton believes Bolingoli deserves more time to prove himself and says he would rebel against the club if they tried to offload him.
“If I just signed for a club like him – he’s only been there a year, he’s had an injury problem – I’d want to stay,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“I’d be looking to fight for my place, I’d believe in my ability which I believe he does. I believe he’s got ability from what we’ve seen so far. We’ve seen he can be a good player.
“I’d want him to stay and fight for his place. Yes, he’s got competition but I don’t think that it’s any better than what he is. I would want to stay, if I was him, and fight for his place.”
Bolingoli has played just once for Neil Lennon since the start of 2020, having featured regularly prior to the winter break.
He has a total of 28 appearances under his belt for the Bhoys but has fallen behind both Taylor and makeshift full-back Jonny Haye in the pecking order.
