Exclusive: Celtic close in on new deal, ex-Ger wowed by 'Outstanding' player set for 5 years

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard will be offered a groundbreaking deal as he considers extending his contract at Parkhead, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists there is nothing for the 22-year-old to lose by signing new terms with the Bhoys.

As revealed by Football Insider, the French hitman has revealed to club chiefs he may be willing to turn down a summer move and commit to a new long-term contract.

Hutton believes there will be caveats to the striker’s demands but admits signing a bumper new deal would definitely help tempt him to tie himself down to the Glasgow giants.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it could be a few things with everything that’s gone on, maybe Celtic haven’t had the offer that they’re willing to accept or maybe his agent hasn’t found the right club for him wanting to pay the money.

“I think he’s got two years left, and if you’re trying to give him a new five-year deal, I’m pretty sure there’s going to be some sort of break clause in there or some sort of fee that if a team comes in at that fee, he’ll be allowed to go.

“Also, he’s their best player in my opinion, he scores the goals, he’s been outstanding for goals and assists – his wages are probably going to go through the roof for the Scottish game so there are incentives there for him.

“Staying for 10-in-a-row, better wages, maybe in a year or two – he’s still 22 for God’s sake, he’s got so much time on his hands – so I think all the cards are with him so there’s no losing for him. I can see why he’s thinking: ‘Wait a minute, I’ll actually sign a new deal.'”

Edouard has been a standout performer for Celtic since arriving on an initial loan from PSG in 2017, with 60 goals in 126 appearances.

He netted 27 times and chipped in with 19 assists during the 2019/20 campaign, while he also has 11 goals in just six appearances for France’s under-21 side.
