Exclusive: Chelsea hold goalkeeper signing talks
Chelsea held talks over signing a new goalkeeper in January but could not find a suitable target, sources have told Football Insider.
Enzo Maresca has had problems between the sticks this season and in a new twist, dropped Robert Sanchez for Filip Jorgensen for the 2-1 win over West Ham on Monday (3 February).
The move comes after five mistakes leading directly to goals from Sanchez in the Premier League this season.
The Blues are not afraid to spend big to improve their squad but couldn’t find an appropriate upgrade on the first-team duo before the 3 February deadline.
Jorgensen is now set to get the shirt until the end of the season and will get the chance to cement his place in the plans of Maresca beyond the summer.
Chelsea also have young duo Djordje Petrovic and Mike Penders out on loan at Strasbourg and KRC Genk respectively.
All four players have been signed in the last two years but the Blues could move again for an upgrade in the goalkeeping department this summer.
Chelsea explored January goalkeeper deal after Sanchez mistakes
Sanchez has made 21 appearances across all competitions for Maresca’s side this term, keeping just four clean sheets and conceding 27 goals.
Meanwhile, Jorgensen has played 14 times – conceding 13 and keeping five clean sheets – with the majority of those outings coming in cup competition.

Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League table after their win over West Ham and are favourites to win the Uefa Conference League this season.
The Blues are next in action in the FA Cup against Brighton on Saturday (8 February).
