Exclusive: Crystal Palace make surprise Thomas Frank move

Crystal Palace have already sounded out Thomas Frank to be their next manager, sources have told Football Insider.

Third parties have been in contact regarding a potential move and the Dane is seen among the front-runners to replace Oliver Glasner.

The timing has come as a surprise, with the 52-year-old’s reputation at an all-time low following a wretched league campaign at Tottenham that led to him being dismissed on Wednesday.

Football Insider revealed in January that Palace were planning to approach Frank in the summer, with that task made easier now that he is available.

The south Londoners see Frank as the perfect fit at Selhurst Park due to his impressive seven years in charge of Brentford, who have a similar budget and operational set-up.

Thomas Frank to seek redemption away from Tottenham

Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United was the final straw for the Tottenham board, who felt they had no option but to end Frank’s reign amid mutiny in the stands.

Only five points separate the Lilywhites from the relegation zone, with Man United‘s stoppage-time equaliser at the London Stadium just keeping West Ham out of striking distance.

Ultimately, a match played at home would be the decisive blow for Tottenham – a fitting end, given how poor the Dane’s side have been there this season.

The north London club have won just 10 points from a possible 39 available through matches played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.

If the Premier League table were judged just on home matches, they really would be in the relegation zone.

Frank had looked a smart appointment at Tottenham, with his job at Brentford so impressive, but he now faces a destroyed reputation in the Premier League.

Premier League to trigger Premier League managerial merry-go-round

There could be several Premier League teams in the market for a new manager in the summer.

Man United are yet to be convinced on appointing Michael Carrick permanently, while Newcastle, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Brighton also contemplate changes in the dugout.

With newly available managers not exactly flooding the market from Europe, a managerial merry-go-round could well be triggered.

Tottenham and Palace could be the first to take part, with a swap of managers between the clubs currently looking rather likely.
