Crystal Palace have opened talks over a new contract with Jeffrey Schlupp, Football Insider understands.

Schlupp, who scored the winning goal against Bournemouth in midweek, is entering the final 18 months of his contract at Palace and the club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

A Palace source has told Football Insider that discussions are underway with the left-sided flyer and there is hope that an agreement can be reached in the coming weeks.

The 26-year-old has established himself as a key member of Roy Hodgson’s side since joining Palace from Leicester City in January 2017.

Schlupp, who can play at left-back and left midfield, has made over 90 appearances for Palace and his versatility makes him a vital member of the squad at Selhurst Park.

Palace have recently tied down the likes of James Tomkins and Christian Benteke to new deals and they hope Schlupp follows suit.

The Eagles are expected to name the wide man in their squad for tomorrow’s Premier League clash away to bottom club Watford.

Capped 18 times by Ghana, Schlupp has made eight starts among 13 Premier League appearances for Palace this season that have yielded two goals and two assists.

He is renowned for his explosive speed and has been timed as one of the quickest players in the English top flight in recent years.

In other Crystal Palace news, it can be REVEALED that a London club have agreed to sign Joe Ledley on a free transfer.
