Exclusive: Danny Mills dazzled by blockbuster potential Everton signing
Danny Mills has backed Everton target Jack Grealish to live up to expectation if he agrees to a move away from Aston Villa this summer.
The former Manchester City full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed it takes “a certain type of player” to cope with the mental pressures of being at a club of Manchester United’s stature.
Speculation continues over where the 24-year-old will line up next year having hugely impressed in a struggling Villa side this campaign.
Nine goals and eight assists have not been enough to prevent Dean Smith’s side from falling into the relegation zone with ten games remaining.
As revealed by Football Insider, Everton have joined Manchester United in their pursuit of the attacking midfielder with both considering bids this summer.
Mills believes Grealish has everything in his arsenal to become a success at a top-six side.
“It is big fish small pond mentality. Some players like being the centre of attention and like to be the most important player at a football club. They want all of the media attention and plaudits.
“Maybe that is what we saw with Zaha at Manchester United. It did not quite work out. You have to be a certain type of player to take it on mentally.
“I am sure Grealish could do that. It looks like he has all of the whys and wherefores and the ability to do it. He has carried Aston Villa an awful lot this season.
“On the surface, it would not be a huge issue or problem. It is how you deal with the sort of pressure that comes with great expectation.”
Wilfried Zaha was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Crystal Palace in January 2013 but only mustered four appearances before being sold having ultimately failed to meet expectations.
In other Aston Villa news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider Dean Smith could be stuck with player despite wanting him to leave.
