Exclusive: Danny Mills raves as Villa reported on brink of new signing with 'A lot of ability'
Danny Mills says that Pepe Reina has the experience to “settle everything down” at Aston Villa after Tom Heaton’s crushing injury blow.
The former Leeds and England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits that he is devastated the Villa shot-stopper has been ruled out until the end of the season.
BBC Sport report that Villa are on the brink of taking Spanish veteran Reina on board for the rest of the season, stating a deal has been agreed with AC Milan and that a medical is scheduled for Monday.
Mills says that a goalkeeper of the Spanish veteran’s pedigree would be a great addition at Villa Park and that he can fill the void left by Heaton.
Mills told Football Insider: “It’s a devastating blow for Tom Heaton. The fact you’ve got the Euros coming up as well, it’s a really sad time to get an injury. He’s a fabulous keeper and a great lad.
“Pepe Reina comes in, he’s got so much experience and sometimes you just need a steady Eddie to go in that position and settle everything down a bit. If Pepe Reina’s available then why not?

“We’ve seen Nigel Martyn do it at Everton at 35, 36 and being outstanding. If he’s available then without a doubt I’m sure he’s got a lot of ability and a lot to give.”
Reina has played second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma all season at AC Milan, the Spaniard with just one Serie A appearances under his belt this season.
He has a total of 285 Premier League games to his name after his time at Liverpool, while he has also turned out for Napoli, Barcelona Bayern Munich and Villareal during his career.
