Danny Mills has tipped Gaetano Berardi to replace the injured Liam Cooper in the Leeds United side for the trip to Blackburn this weekend.
The former Whites and Manchester City full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, urged Marcelo Bielsa not to drop Kalvin Phillips into centre-half in place of the club captain.
Cooper hobbled off after just 10 minutes at Elland Road on Tuesday night as Leeds were held to a 1-1 draw to relegation threatened Luton Town.
The defender looked to be in significant discomfort as he left the field of play to be replaced by Gaetano Berardi.
However, the ever-reliable Phil Hay suggested his injury may not be as bad as first feared and could even be in contention for a starting place at Ewood Park on Saturday.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the back injury, Mills said: “It is not great.
“But it looks like he will only miss one game, not much more than that, fingers crossed.
“The plus is that Leeds came out with a point and in the past that is a game they would have lost. It has been disastrous in the past.
“I would be tempted to leave Kalvin where he is for Blackburn and bring in Berardi alongside White. It should not be a massive issue.”
After the draw Bielsa suggested that the injury would not keep the Leeds captain out for long.
He said: “It’s a kick, very painful in the side, but don’t think it’s a heavy injury.”
