Danny Mills has urged Everton to sign Manchester United winger Daniel James to resolve their squad depth issues.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former England defender claimed the Wales international needs a fresh start after having his opportunities limited at Old Trafford.
This site revealed last week the Toffees are keeping tabs on James’ situation ahead of the winter window and could be set to take him on loan.
Everton were keen on signing James from Swansea City in 2019 but were beaten to his signature by United.
After an explosive start to life at Old Trafford, he has fallen down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Soljskaer and has started just three Premier League games this season.
Asked by Football Insider what the former Swansea City man could bring to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Mills said:
“I think we’ve seen one to 13 or 14 is very, very strong but when you lose a couple of those players like a Dominic Calvert-Lewin, James Rodriguez, or Richarlison it does affect them.
“These are really good players and they don’t quite have the strength in depth to replace them.
“Someone like Daniel James could come in and sort that out.
“We’ve seen him play well but maybe he needs a fresh start. He went to Manchester United and started brilliantly and all of sudden his opportunities have been limited. As a young player, he’ll just want to be playing football.”
James has not registered a goal or assist this term in five appearances across all competitions.
His only goal for United in 2020 came in their 5-0 win over LASK in last season’s Europa League last 16 first-leg tie.
