Exclusive: Darren Bent baffled by reported Aston Villa pursuit of 'Absolutely brilliant' player
Darren Bent admitted he couldn’t understand why Aston Villa would want to sign midfielder Steven Nzonzi.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-England international stated that the Villans already have several holding midfielders so questioned why they’d want another.
It was recently reported that the Villans are trying to tempt the midfielder to join them following the player being suspended by Galatasary after a training ground row.
Bent admitted he thought Nzonzi was an absolutely brilliant holding midfield player as he’s big and powerful but stressed he isn’t what Dean Smith’s side need.
When asked if Nzonzi made sense for the Villans as he’s a proven commodity, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah, he is proven.
“As a holding midfield player, he’s absolutely brilliant, he’s big, powerful, and a big presence, but for Villa, they need to get some good players through the door, and he is a good player.

“But is he what they need right now? Not sure, they’ve got Douglas Luiz, Hourihane and they’ve just brought in Drinkwater…how many holding midfielder players can you really have?”
The 31-year-old is currently on loan at Galatasary from AS Roma and before being suspended he played 15 times for the club.
Nzonzi previously played in England as he had spells with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, with him racking up a total of 195 Premier League appearances.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED the club have tabled a move to sign a striker from a giant of the Premier League.
