Darren Bent believes the Leeds United squad are really starting to feel the pressure after Kalvin Phillips lifted the lid on arguments between the players.

The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has blasted the Whites for being complacent against Luton Town and believes they are not out of the woods despite today’s 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers.

As quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Phillips admitted there had been stern words shared among the squad during and after the 1-1 draw and revealed they were “frustrated” with the Hatters’ tactics.

Bent suggests that the Leeds players thought they were going to dominate Luton at Elland Road and that their attitude means the pressure is starting to mount on their shoulders.

Asked if he thought the players were starting to feel the pressure, Bent told Football Insider: “That’s what it is, you’ve hit the nail on the head – it’s pressure. They would have expected to come up against Luton and to walk all over them and it doesn’t always work that way.

“That’s why there’s probably arguments. I’ve played in games like that where you’re the superior team and you turn up thinking we’re going to turn up and turn them over five or six.

“Because you’ve not applied yourself right for the first two, three, five minutes, that gives Luton a leg up and they think they’ve got a chance. By the time you try to get over it and recover, you can’t – the game’s too late, Luton are in their stride, making it hard for you.”

Leeds are hoping to avoid a repeat of last season where a dreadful run of form saw them tumble out of the automatic promotion race and beaten by Derby County in the play-offs.

Of their remaining five matches, they have to face relegation-threatened Stoke City and Barnsley as well as play-off hopefuls Derby and Swansea.

In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan has been left fuming over the “worst decision in football this season” at Elland Road.
