Exclusive: Darren Bent reacts to 'Damaging' news about 'Brilliant' Leeds star
Darren Bent says that Kemar Roofe’s ankle injury will be a “bitter blow” for the striker but that it is not the end of the world for Leeds United.
The former Tottenham and England star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the Whites will be able to get over the loss of the 26-year-old if Patrick Bamford can step up to the mark but that the player himself will be disappointed.
Leeds confirmed that the forward will be out for around four weeks after spraining his ankle, meaning he will miss the start of the new Championship campaign.
Bent says that he is hoping to see Roofe back sooner rather than later but insisted that things could have gone worse for both player and club.
Bent told Football Insider: “It’s not the worst thing in the world for Leeds. It’s damaging for Kemar Roofe, because he was brilliant at the end of last season when he came back, now Patrick Bamford’s got to step up and take that mantle on.

“It’s a bitter blow for him, he’s been brilliant and hopefully that ankle injury doesn’t keep him out for long, you’d like to think he could come back in a quick time, maybe just a couple of games into the season.
“It’s not the end of the world for Leeds but a disappointing blow for him.”
Roofe netted 15 goals in 33 Championship appearances last season, with Marcelo Bielsa forced to chop and change between him and Bamford due to the pair’s injury problems.
He has a total of 122 outings under his belt for the Whites, with 33 goals to his name.
In other Leeds United news, Noel Whelan claims that the club could make a “ludicrous” mistake over one of their top stars.
