Alex Bruce has tipped Kieran Dowell to be huge success next season after he left Everton to join Norwich.

The former Premier League defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, was full of praise for the 22-year-old who he insisted was “very, very good” during his loan spell at Wigan Athletic.

The Toffees confirmed on Thursday that the midfielder had left Goodison Park for an undisclosed fee and signed a three-year deal with the Canaries.

Dowell spent last season on loan at both Derby and Wigan and netted five times in 12 appearances for the Latics, including a hat-trick during their stunning 8-0 win over Hull.

Bruce insists that the midfielder’s “impressive” displays in the Championship caught the eye and earned him the move to Norwich.

“It’s a good move for him,” Bruce told Football Insider.

“He’ll get some game time at Norwich and he’s obviously impressed them down there.

“A good move, obviously Norwich is a great club, looking to be there or thereabouts in the Championship next season.

“I’m sure he’ll do well, I’ve mentioned his impressive performances for Wigan this year have been very, very good.”

The 22-year-old, capped 17 times by England’s Under-21s, made five senior appearances for the Toffees.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk, Dowell said: “It’s a massive step in my career which is why I had to make sure it’s the right decision for me.”
