Everton defender Ashley Williams has agreed a season-long loan move to Stoke City and is set to undergo a medical in the next 24 hours, Football Insider sources understands.
Everton and Stoke have been in talks over a deal for midfielder Badou N’Diaye and during those talks the Championship club enquired about Williams’ availability as they look to bolster their defensive options.
Stoke were interested in Aston Villa defender James Chester, but Villa refused to sell him and now the Potters have switched their attentions to Chester’s Wales team-mate Williams.
The experienced centre-back has lost his first-team spot at Everton under new manager Marco Silva and they are willing to let the central defender move out on loan.
Williams joined Everton from Swansea in the summer of 2016 and he boasts a wealth of experience at club and international level.
The 33-year-old is expected to go straight into the Stoke squad to face Leeds on Sunday if he comes through his medical okay in the coming hours.
