Darren Bent has urged Everton to sell Gylfi Sigurdsson for a loss if they can replace him with Aston Villa ace Jack Grealish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Jason Jones, the former England striker has blasted the 30-year-old for his lack of consistency and thinks Villa’s 24-year-old talisman would be ideal to take his place.
As revealed exclusively by Football Insider, the Toffees are prepared to sell the Iceland international for a huge loss on the £45million they spent back in 2017.
It is understood that football’s cash crisis, caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, means the best Everton may hope to pick up from selling Sigurdsson is around £20million.
Bent admits he is baffled by Sigurdsson’s inability to perform regularly and suggests it is time for Everton to cut their losses.
Asked if Everton should sell up this summer, Bent told Football Insider: “I think it might be time for them (to sell).
“If they’re going after someone like a Grealish or a Jesse Lingard. We know Sigurdsson’s got ability, we know how good he is, he’s brilliant – technically, he’s very, very good.
“For whatever reason, he hasn’t been able to put it all together, he just hasn’t done it and we don’t know why. I think Ancelotti will help but if they can go and get someone like a Grealish, I’d probably cut the losses and go from there.
“He is a top player and he has got a lot of ability but if you don’t get it consistently enough from him there’s no point keeping him there.”
Sigurdsson has missed just three Premier League games this season but has just one goal and two assists under his belt.
Grealish meanwhile has played the same number of games as the Everton man but has netted seven times and set up a further six for his teammates.
In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set to lose £42m in devastating blow.
