Exclusive: Ex-striker nails what is 'half the problem' with baffling Mourinho at Spurs
Noel Whelan has revealed he has been left baffled by Jose Mourinho’s inconsistent team selections and claimed it must send Tottenham fans fuming.
The former Leeds United striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, also criticised the ‘special one’ for playing players out of position.
Spurs were knocked out of the Champions League by Red Bull Leipzig on Tuesday night to make it no win in six for Mourinho’s side.
A brace from Marcel Sabitzer all but killed off the tie in the first half. The visitor’s misery was compounded when Emil Forsberg scored late on with the aggregate score finishing 4-0.
When asked why Spurs were without a win since mid-February, Whelan told Football Insider: “Consistency on players. Mourinho loves to change the side around. He does not keep a consistent side and that is half the problem.
“How are people supposed to get used to playing with each other if you are not going to consistently play the same side and midfielders together? They are never going to get used to each other games.

“I am sure it infuriates Spurs fans seeing an unsettled side getting chopped and changed every game. You are putting round pegs in square holes. It does not work. I do not understand it because you can only be successful with a consistent side.”
Since Mourinho’s appointment in November, Spurs have conceded the second-most goals (38) in the Premier League behind only Aston Villa (42).
Injuries have not helped, with Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and January signing Steven Bergwijn are all currently sidelined.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider why Jose Mourinho does not trust Ryan Sessegnon.
